What to expect with spider vein treatment

Before Sclerotherapy

  • Bathe or shower the day of your procedure

  • Please do not shave your legs the day of treatment

  • Please refrain from applying lotions the day of your procedure

  • Have cloths that are loose fitting on the day of treatment

  • You may need to discontinue taking birth control pills one month before the treatment.

  • For 3-5 days before treatment you may be required to avoid  taking aspirin, ibuprofen, anti-inflammatories, blood thinners, gingko biloba, ginger, garlic, ginseng, vitamin E, ephedra, iron, or antibiotics

During Sclerotherapy

  • During the procedure you will lie down on a bed. An injection of a solution with be injected into each area of spider veins. The solution cuases the vein to collapse and they will fade over time.

After Sclerotherapy

  • After sclerotherapy you will be able to drive yourself home and resume your regular daily activities. 

  • Please be sure to walk after your procedure plenty

  • You will need to use compression socks after the procedure and until your follow up.

  • Also, you should avoid the following for 48 hours after treatment:
  1. Hot baths, saunas or jacuzzis
  2. Avoid sunlight when possible.
  3. Hot compresses
  4. Try to bathe in cooler water than usual
  5. Wash injection sites with mild soap and tepid water
